Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday met President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan to discuss various issues amid the ongoing political tussle between the AAP Government and lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, including the transfer of Delhi Government officials, without consulting the State Government and appointment of ACB chief Mukesh Kumar Meena.
The outcome of the meeting was not known. According to an official, during the hour-long meeting, Kejriwal apprised Mukherjee of the current situation in Delhi.
Claiming the meeting to be a courtesy call, Government spokesperson denied that the issue of rift with the l-G or the Central Government was taken up during the meeting between Mukherjee and Kejriwal.
The AAP Government and the lieutenant Governor has been locked in a bitter confrontation over appointments of senior officials and functioning of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
Kejriwal had earlier met Mukerjee and apprised him of their respective stands in connection with the controversy over appointment of acting chief secretary in May.
After taking the charge as Delhi Chief Minister, Kejriwal had met Mukherjee in February who in turn, gifted him (kejriwal) two books — ‘Constitution of India’ and ‘Thoughts and Reflections’. On Wednesday, Kejriwal has written a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh accusing the Centre of the transfer of senior bureaucrats without consulting the AAP Government.
