When it comes to beating Government plans, Delhiites always come out with ideas to steer clear of the trouble. When the Arvind Kejriwal Government has gone on an overdrive to ensure success to odd-even scheme to curb air pollution, Delhiites have started buying two-wheelers as these have been exempted from the restrictions.
Many of the office-goers think buying a two-wheeler is a better option that to commute in the crowded Delhi Metro trains and the city buses. City residents are approaching automobile dealers for buying bikes/scooters. Auto dealers are happy since their cash boxes are ringing with more people visiting show rooms to by either a bike or a scooter.
Rajiv Kumar, a healthcare professional buying a two-wheeler from a Honda Activa dealer in Saket, told The Pioneer that he is buying a two-wheeler despite having a petrol-run car which is registered with even number. “But due to implementation of odd-even scheme starting from January 1, I won’t be able to use my car every day and that’s why I am buying an Activa.”
“I will try to register new two wheelers with odd number as I cannot rely much on AAP government policy. In coming days they may apply this argument on two wheelers as well,” he added.
Another Saket based Honda dealer told The Pioneer that customers are approaching them to buy new vehicles with the number which they want, “Despite the fact that automobile dealers cannot deal with vehicle numbers, customers are asking us to help them with some makeshift solutions,” said the dealer who is not willing to disclose the name of his agency.
He also added that number of customers has doubled after the announcement of exemption on two wheelers.
On 25 December, the AAP Government announced the list of exempted vehicles. While a step to implement even-odd vehicles numbers ply on Delhi roads from New Year onwards have been taken by the Delhi Government to curb pollution as health experts had given alarm for serious respiratory problems among children and senior citizen due to noxious city air quality.
