Eight candidates face charges of crimes against women

Declaring the criminal cases against them in the affidavit, submitted at the time of filing nomination papers, eight candidates contesting the Delhi Assembly elections have been charged in cases related to crimes against women.

Out of these, three have declared charges related to assault or criminal force with intent to outrage her modesty under Section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), three charged under Section 509 of IPC for a word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, one candidate with charges related to husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty under Section 498A and one candidate has declared charges

related to causing miscarriage without a woman’s consent under Section 313 and one has been charged with kidnapping, abduction or inducing a woman to compel her marriage under Section 366.
