A london-bound Cathay Pacific cargo aircraft CX 37 returned to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) under emergency conditions due to a suspected bird hit.
Sources said the cargo flight that took off from the airport around 3.40 pm for london returned within an hour at 4.41 pm under full-emergency after the plane had caught fire.
Cathay Pacific spokesperson Charlie Stewart-Cox said their freighter CX37 from Delhi to london experienced a bird-hit upon take-off. “Hence the captain decided to return to Delhi, and as per our protocol, all emergency procedures were followed,” he said.
However, it was later reported that the engine of the plane caught fire and the flight was immediately called back. Call for emergency was made as soon as flight was landed and for the conduct of the emergency procedures, four police vans were spotted on the runway number 2810.
