Amit Shah sharpens barbs as campaign ratchets up rhetoric

Mauni baba for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, “Rahul baba with Italian glasses” for Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Dhongi for Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, BJP president Amit Shah, on Friday, left no stone unturned in lashing out at the Congress and the upstart AAP. The party supremo, who addressed three rallies on Friday, was seen all ready to take down the rival parties.

Addressing a rally in West Delhi’s Janakpuri constituency, which would see a battle between BJP’s veteran leader Jagdish Mukhi and his son-in-law and new entrant in Congress Suresh Kumar, Shah spoke of the repeated ceasefire violations on the border shared by India and Pakistan.

“During UPA’s 10-year-rule, Pakistan used to start cross border terrorism and end it at their will. Rahul Baba says nothing has changed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power. How would he see with his Italian spectaclesIJ The difference is that now also Pakistan begins ceasefire violation, but the country gets a befitting reply by Indian soldiers who put an end to the gun battle,” Shah said at Janakpuri. The constituency is considered a BJP stronghold.

Speaking of inflation and corruption in Janakpuri which mostly has urban voters, he repeatedly compared inflation index and prices of petrol and diesel between Modi’s eight months of governance and UPA’s 10 years at

the Centre. “From 6.7 per cent to 7 per cent during Congress’ rule, the BJP in just eight months has brought down inflation to 0-1 per cent. Petrol prices have decreased 11 times in the past few months reducing monthly expenses per household by at least `1,500,”

he said.

In Uttam Nagar, where the fight is clearly between BJP’s Pawan Sharma and AAP’s Naresh Balyan, Shah lashed out at Kejriwal alleging that he was a “manufacturer of lies” and “ran away from the backdoor after calling Janta Darbar. He attacked the rookie party again while addressing a gathering consisting of people who hail from Madhya Pradesh and are residing in Delhi at Madhya Pradesh Mitra Mandal.

“AAP said they will never form a political party and will never take the support of Congress, but later took Congress’ support to form Government in Delhi. They (AAP) said that they would take action against Sheila Dikshit but they did not. They said they will not take a Government bungalow but then they took a duplex. So they have always lied to the people of Delhi,” alleged Shah.

Taking a dig at the former CM, Shah said that before coming to power in Delhi, he (Kejriwal) used to travel in a small car, but after his 49-day rule, he is now travelling in an SUV. He asked people not to get distracted by AAP’s false promises and urged them to bring in a stable Government.

“Delhi needs a Government which could work hand-in-hand with the Centre. Delhi needs a corruption-free Government. A Government which can feel the pain of people,” he said, claiming,

“BJP can only give such Government under the

leadership of Kiran Bedi and the people of Delhi have realised it”.
