While India Africa Forum Summit has just finished here in the Capital, there won’t be any immediate relief for the motorists in Delhi as major streets in lutyens’ zone in and around the Rajpath would be blocked for a few hours on Saturday in view of the Run for Unity event that is scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Around 15,000 people are expected to participate in the event that marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“Rajpath and Rafi Marg will be closed from 5 am to 9.30 am while Janpath and Man Singh Road shall be closed between 7 am and 9.30 am for general public in order to facilitate smooth conduct of the function,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sandeep Goel, said.
In an advisory issued by police, it said commuters taking Vinay Marg or Shanti Path to head towards central New Delhi and beyond may take Sardar Patel Marg-Mother Teresa Crescent-the roundabout RMl Hospital-Baba Khadak Singh Marg or Park Street-Mandir Marg and proceed further to New Delhi and areas beyond that.
“Traffic diversions shall be suitably enforced on roads in the vicinity of Rajpath, where participants will arrive in buses and cars,” police added.
