AAP MlA booked for assaulting engineer

Thursday, 30 April 2015 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party’s Tilak Nagar MlA Jarnail Singh has been booked by police for allegedly assaulting a MCD engineer and preventing him from carrying out his duty when the latter and his team had gone to demolish an illegal construction in West Delhi. An FIR was registered in this regard after police received a complaint from SDMC junior engineer Azhar Mustafa in this connection.

Mustafa, in his complaint, said that he, along with his team, had reached Krishna Park area to demolish an illegal construction when the locals objected to it and called local MlA Jarnail Singh on the spot. “The junior engineer has accused Singh and several of his associates of thrashing him and obstructing him and his team from carrying out the demolition,” said a senior police official quoting the complaint.

Mustafa has claimed that when Singh was shown documents authorising the demolition, Singh tore them up. “On the basis of the complaint, we have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) at Tilak Nagar Police station against Singh. Further investigations are on,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar.

Jarnail Singh, on the other hand, rejected the claims made by Mustafa and claimed that no notice was served to the owner of the property. Singh also said that he would file a counter complaint against the engineer. “We have not received any counter complaint in this regard from Singh so far,” said Kumar.

Several controversies have hit the AAP Government since it stormed to power in February. Several FIRs have been filed against its MlAs including Assembly Speaker and AAP legislator from Shahdara Ram Niwas Goel. Opposition has also trained its guns on the Kejriwal Government over its Minister Jitender Singh Tomar’s law degree, which has been termed “fabricated” by the concerned university.
