A day after drawing flak from the Republicans for putting off military action against the ISIS terror machine in Syria on the grounds that he does not have a strategy yet, President Barack Obama has come up with the assertion that the world needs American leadership more now than ever before.
As he put it to a Democratic gathering in Purchase, New York, the world has always been “messy”, but “the good news is that American leadership has never been more necessary”. What more, as he sees it, there’s no real competition to America from anywhere in terms of ideas and values that can create the sort of order that the world needs today.
Dismissing the possibility of any challenge from the likes of China or Russia, Obama commented that wherever one travelled, be it in Asia, Europe, latin America or Africa, one would find people “still looking to America as a beacon of hope and opportunity”.
“I hear people sometimes saying, well, I don’t know, China is advancing. But I tell you what, if you look at our cards and you look at China’s cards, I promise you you’d rather have ours,” he remarked. And referring to those who say “Russia looks pretty aggressive right now”, Obama commented amid much laughter from the party faithful: “But Russia’s economy is going nowhere. Here’s a quick test for you: Are there long lines of people trying to emigrate into RussiaIJ I don’t think so.”
