Even as three power plants of State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) namely Badarpur in Delhi, Jhajjar in neighbouring Haryana as well as Sipat in Chhattisgarh reported zero days of dry fuel on August 28, the Maharatna company allayed fears of the power supply situation in the national capital region (NCR) getting affected.
"There is nothing to worry," NTPC Chairman Arup Roy Choudhury told The Pioneer, when contacted to comment on the dismal coal availability in its plants. He added that there was no load shedding during Saturday so there is no reason to panic.
The northern region is facing over 5,000 mw of power shortage due to coal stocks drying up. As per the latest data provided by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the three aforementioned plants had zero stock of coal on August 28.
Meanwhile according to agency reports, NTPC's 705 mw Badarpur station is bearing the brunt of coal shortage and be asked to run at a lower capacity if fuel supply is further disrupted.
