The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election will be held on September 12, a member of an election body said on Saturday. The candidates will have to fill their nomination papers by Tuesday and the poll campaign will start from Wednesday, one of the members of the election body said.
The presidential debate will be held on September 10. The JNUSU election coincides with the Delhi University Students Union polls. last year, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) swept the election, bagging all the top four posts, winning three with huge margins and one with a lesser margin.
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) — affiliated to the Communist Party of India-Marxist which once had a tenacious grip over the campus politics — has been faring poorly for the past few years. According to sources, the SFI and its breakaway faction Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF) are planning to form an alliance this time to fight the AISA.
