In a move which could earn brownie points to them, the Delhi BJP workers will now be at your service to clean up your locality. Under the “Clean India” banner, the BJP’s latest bid to woo voters ahead of Delhi Assembly polls is the “Missed Call-Clean Up” service. In this scheme people can just leave a missed call if their area is dirty and the saffron party’s teams would come to clean up the mess.
The leaders in city are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters. As a popularity gimmick leaders are pressing upon cleanliness drive in the area. To make the ambitious project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Clean India Campaign, they are asking locals to give a miss call to a mobile number, after which a team of a dozen men is sent to clean the area.
On receiving a miss-call, Gaurav Pandey, a saffron party leader in Burari, records the name of the caller and his address. He then sends his brigade of a dozen men to sweep the area. After cleaning the complained area, the team members hold s a discussion with the locals talking to them about the need of cleanliness in the area.
The locals complained that the cleanliness of the area is overlooked by the civic agencies. Forty-seven-year-old Devi Shankar, a local resident said, “The cleanliness campaign has made a slight difference to the dhaloas situation, still several sectors are not taken care of.” The public urinals, parks, streets are still lined up with debris, the locals complained.
But the latest move of the saffron brigade has come under criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which has always been calling Modi’s cleanliness campaign as a mere photo opportunity. The fledgling party termed the latest move as another “PR stunt” aimed to deflect people’s attention from what is plaguing the BJP-led three municipal corporations. “It has become BJP’s habit now to come up with moves which shall never materialise. For a reality check one just needs to step out of the home and see the amount of filth despite the so-called cleanliness drive,” said an AAP member.
The Delhi BJP along with its chief Satish Upadhyay had recently come under huge criticism for a cleanliness drive event organised at the India Islamic Centre. In that, Upadhyay and former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi were seen cleaning garbage which was carefully dumped by workers before the leaders swept their brooms.
