Beary Paddington

Deebashree Mohanty has fun talking to Paddington the bear to know how excited he is about his upcoming film

How excited are you, Paddington, to be gracing the big screenIJ

I sometimes get a bit of a surprise when I catch sight of my reflection in the mirror so I’m not sure how I’m going to feel when I see an enormous version of myself on a cinema screen. I’ve been warned that I may be expected to sign a lot of autographs when I’m a film star but bears aren’t very good at writing so I hope people won’t mind getting paw prints instead.

What happens in the storyIJ

I come from the darkest jungles of Peru to london, city of dreams. As I am trying to figure out about what city life is, the Brown family notices me and they take me with them. later, whether I become their friend or foe; you will have to watch the movie.

Were you petrified of the taxidermistIJ

I am petrified at everything in this city. I have no clue what is going on. And when this evil looking woman is behind me, I think I want to run back to Peru. I don’t know why she wants to get me mounted and stuffed.

Are you tired after all that shootingIJ

It was great fun on the sets. With the Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and everyone. I enjoyed a lot. The biggest challenge for me was to step out of the book and talk to the camera.

Do you like the novels or the movieIJ

Novels are a great place. Michael sir, made me experience each and every aspect of city life, in the most horrifying (for me) and silliest (for readers) way. But I enjoyed being on the big screen as well. I am overwhelmed that people still love me so much.

Who is your favorite and whyIJ

For my elevenses, I have my friend Mr Gruber. On my way to see him I stop off at the baker's to buy some buns and then Mr Gruber makes cocoa.  In the winter we share our buns and cocoa sitting on an old sofa at the back of his antiques shop, but in the summer, when the weather is warm, we sometimes sit in deckchairs on the pavement outside.

What is the best and the worst part of being a cuddly bearIJ

Bears, like most people, enjoy company so it's important to talk to them.  In fact, they make very good listeners. The only thing I hate about being a bear is that kids pull my ears and cheeks which I don’t like very much.
