The aspiring theatre actors of the city are learning the art of mime act in a 15-day mime workshop. They are also learning various forms of mime acts, including the shadow mime activity which always captures the attention of the theatre lovers across the world.
Through the workshop the aspirants are also exploring their skills and are getting acquainted with a different art form of the theatre industry. Being organised by Shadow Group, the workshop is being conducted at Sharda Bhavan, TT Nagar, and would conclude on April 30.Manoj Nair said, "The mime performer should always endeavour to use fewer props on stage and explain the concept through expressions. This is what mime is all about. A mime performer has not justified his act if not expressed the emotions and message to the audience properly that lies behind his act."
Notably, this is a different experience for the youngsters as mime is all about expressions and body language. "To learn dialogues is pretty easy but to learn the expressions with body language and performing it on stage correctly is a big challenge. And this what the students are learning in this workshop," said Manoj.
Mime is a theatrical presentation that is performed only through expressions of the face. Further a mime artist is someone who uses mime as a theatrical medium or as a performance art, involving miming, or the acting out a story through body motions, without use of speech. Notably, in earlier times, such a performer would typically be referred to as a mummer. Moreover, miming is to be distinguished from silent comedy, in which the artist is a seamless character in a film or sketch.
"It is not only a place where young people can meet and share their passion for the arts, but we aim to help participants improve their, self-confidence, public speaking and communication skills. We help them understand the importance of body language, and generally aim help them become a little more expressive," he added. The youngsters of the city have enthusiastically participated in the workshop and are enjoying learning new forms of theatre art.
