Chhattisgarh Fisheries department, in order to make fishermen aware of new techniques of fishkeeping, has been organising training programmes in the State.
Fishermen of general, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe classes all took part in the training programme, an official statement informed on Saturday.
A scheme was started during 2006-07 in order to impart training to the most backward class fishermen. During the training, they are provided practical and technical knowledge of fish keeping.
During the period each fisherman is given `75 daily allowance per day, one-time to and fro fare, `100 for other expenses and nylon thread worth `400 to make fishing net.
Fisheries department officers said here on Saturday that more than 45,000 fishermen have been imparted training since the formation of the state to last financial year. In 2000-2001, only 890 fishermen had been imparted training, while in the year 2013-14, 5,530 fishermen got trained.
Similarly, 869 fishermen in 2001-02, 948 in 2002-03, 1,052 in 2004-05, 1,059 in 2005-06, 4,172 in 2006-07, 4,168 in 200708, 4,361 in 2008-09, 4,420 in 2009-10, 3,389 in 2010-11, 3,648 in 2011-12 and 4,429 in 2012-13 have been imparted training.
The officers said that to provide information about high technique of fish keeping, selected fishermen of all classes of the state were taken to ten-day study tour of fish keeping centres of other States of the country. For that each fisherman is given training allowance and `2,500 for other expenses. During the last three years, 650 fishermen have been sent to other states for study tour.
