Woman attacked for 'practicing' witchcraft

In a bizarre incident, a 40-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was attacked by a group of men for allegedly practicing witchcraft at Rugdi village under Chandil police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district in the wee hours of Monday.

The victim, identified as Manjula layak, was rushed to the MGM Medical College and Hospital emergency ward with injuries in her neck. According to information, wife of lalamohan layak, Manjula was sleeping at her house in Rugdi village when some people knocked at the door.  When she opened the door, one of the persons started abusing the woman having branded her as a witch. Then another attacker dragged the victim out of her room and attacked her with the knife. Her husband came to the rescue of his wife but she was already stabbed in the neck. The attackers also threatened the woman with dire consequences.
