Keeping with its tradition, Welham Girls’ School is celebrating its 57th founder’s day on October 31 and November 1.
The special invitees this year are the Class of 1964 and the Class of 1989 who will be celebrating their golden and silver jubilees respectively. The chief guest for the Founder’s Day is Padmashree Anu Aga, former chairperson of Thermax India ltd, chairperson of the Teach for India programme, and Rajya Sabha member since 2012.
The celebrations will commence be at 9 am with the annual sports meet involving march-pass, athletics track events and karate and aerobics demonstrations. This will culminate in the prize distribution by the chief guest at 11.30 am. Satyavrat Bansal, IPS (Retd), former DGP of Uttarakhand, would be present on the occasion.
Dr Amrita Dass, the founder-director of ICS-International (Institute for Career Studieslucknow), a leading educationist and career consultant will hold talks and counselling sessions on ‘Subject and Career Choices’, specially for parents of classes VIII and X.
Parent-Teacher meetings will be held through the afternoon. At 7.00 pm the Senior School literary Society will present William Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’- a play based on the themes of friendship, romance and racial prejudice.
The Principal will host a dinner for the ex-students and staff that night which will include girls from the Class of 1964(Golden Jubilee Class) and from the Class of 1989(Silver Jubilee Class) among many other old students. live exhibitions showcasing a blend of academic and co-curricular activities will be put up by the students in the morning hours on the second day of the celebration
These will include Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Art, Craft and Photography exhibitions. The students will also put up live shows and demonstrations of the co-curricular activities offered in school.
In the evening, the programme will focus on the speeches and prize giving followed by an audio-visual presentation supported by live performances created entirely by the students and teachers. The celebrations will end with a gala dinner for parents, guests, staff and students, accompanied by the students’ live Band’.
