Mother’s milk is a must for infants. World Breastfeeding Week will be observed throughout the State to enhance awareness regarding it. Women and Child Development Minister Maya Singh will launch the week at Gwalior.
Singh has written a letter to anganwadi workers saying that it is imperative for healthy and prosperous Madhya Pradesh that children are healthy. Therefore, mothers should only breastfeed infants from one hour after birth till six months.
In the letter, Maya Singh has said that anganwadi workers’ role is important in making every mother aware. They must bring about awareness among women that infant should be breastfed only from birth upto 6 months. She said that constant efforts should be made in this regard and information should be given to pregnant women and their family members timely about importance of mother’s milk.
During World Breastfeeding Week, pregnant and lactating mothers as well as common people will be informed about importance of breastfeeding. According of health specialists, not only infant’s life is saved, but he also remains healthy if given only mother’s milk within one hour of birth till six months.
Apart from workshops throughout the state, various events will also be held in state’s government colleges during World Breastfeeding Week. Only girl students’ quiz programmes in 6 rounds will be held in colleges between August 1 and 7. Question-answer series has been prepared as a Power Point Presentation. Prizes will be given to winners of quiz competitions.
A media workshop will also be held to inform media representatives about importance of mother’s milk and longevity of infants. They will be urged to undertake its wide publicity to it.
