The residents of Thakur Pyarelal Ward (Ward 60) have threatened to gherao City Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak’s office on Friday if the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) authorities failed to take up cleanliness drive at the ward.
Corporator of Ward 60, Pushpa Tiwari’s spokesperson Dharmendra Tiwari on Thursday said the Kivar Environ Pvt ltd responsible for ensuring cleanliness in city’s civic wards has run out of supplies and equipment since last four months. “The number of cleanliness workers in our ward has been reduced from 40 to nine,” he said and added “the people from our ward can no longer tolerate the filth and garbage as a result, we have decided to gherao the Mayor’s office.”
“And if our problems persist, we will approach the Chief Minister for seeking a solution to our problem,” he said. The municipal workers had been complaining that the Kivar Company had neither given them their full salaries nor other facilities that were promised in the contract. The frequent strikes and subsequent problems had forced the citizens to complain against garbage piling up in several wards of the city.
