The pride of Indian Army “Vijayanta Tank” was installed at the campus of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) here on Tuesday in an impressive ceremony. The unveiling of Vijayanta Tank was done by lt Col IS Rawat (Rtd), the oldest living veteran of Indian Army in Uttarakhand and recipient of Kirti Chakra. The Governor of Uttarakhand Dr Aziz Qureshi was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Qureshi said that dignity of ex servicemen should be maintained. He regretted that despite serving the country and saving its honour from Kashmir to Kanyakumari the armed forces personnel do not get the desired respect and honour when they retire. Qureshi lauded the efforts of UPES for overall development of the youth.
The chancellor of UPES SJ Chopra said that UPES is honoured to have lt Col Rawat on the UPES campus on the
occasion of installation of the Tank in the campus. He praised Governor Aziz Qureshi for having immense respect for the Indian Armed forces. The Commandant of 88 Armoured Regiment
Col AS Bains explained the virtues of Vijyanta tank which made it to serve the country for 38 glorious years.
