As a part of series of events for celebration of Van Mahotsav 2014, the UT Forest and Wildlife Department in collaboration with Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh and UT Education Department celebrated ‘Herbal Day’ on Wednesday.
On the occasion, a new herbal garden created by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation was opened to the general public. The objective of celebrating the ‘Herbal Day’ was to sensitise the masses especially school children to generate awareness about the medicinal values of various plants of nature and to make Chandigarh more clean and green city. The ‘Herbal Day’ was celebrated in all eco clubs of various schools in Chandigarh.
The celebration took place in Municipal Corporation Rose Nursery Sector 23 here where UT Home Secretary Anil Kumar planted sapling of ‘Shatavari’. On the occasion, the UT Home Secretary also distributed the saplings of herbal plants to Principals of various clusters of eco-clubs. He emphasised about the need of herbal plants in curing day-to-day health problems and exhorted school children to be sensitive towards nature and plant more and more trees so as to make Chandigarh a cleaner city.
