Governor Ram Naresh Yadav has told Vice-Chancellors that our efforts for sanitation should be individual as well as collective. “Swachch Bharat Abhiyan” needs to be turned into a mass movement. Yadav desired the Vice-Chancellors to ensure spontaneous active participation of the teaching fraternity.
Writing letters to all Vice-Chancellors, the Governor also attached a copy of demi official letter of Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu regarding “Swachch Bharat Abhiyan”.
It contains portions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address urging people to become partners in building India as a strong country through strong commitment for sanitation before October 2, 2019. It will be our humble tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Yadav hoped that apart from including sanitation in personal habits under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan beginning from Bapu’s birth anniversary, they will also ensure constant dialogue and efforts to create awareness towards sanitation. The appeal/message of Mahatma Gandhi for purity of “means” and “goals” as well as public life should be conveyed during process of education to the young generation. Significance of our independence lies in it.
It is noteworthy that the letter sent by Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu mentions that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is being launched on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2, 2014 in the context of Bapu’s ideology that “cleanliness is more important than political freedom”. The letter has urged the Governor to provide leadership for conduct of this campaign in the interest of nation in all universities and affiliated colleges of the state.
