Two persons including a constable died in two separate road accidents on Thursday in the State. Irked over death of a 25-year-old person in a road accident in Vasant Vihar here, the local residents protested at police station and demanded arrest of the car driver involved in the mishap.
Vasant Vihar police station in-charge Pradeep Chauhan said that 25 year old Shyampur resident Deepak Naudiyal was walking home from office when hit by a car coming from opposite direction at 10 pm in Thakurpur area on Wednesday. The car driver left the scene after the accident.
Police reached the spot after being informed about the incident by a passer-by. Seriously injured Naudiyal was admitted in the hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.
A case under sections 279 and 304 A of IPC was registered against accused by the police. Irked over death of a Deepak, locals protested and blocked the road in Shyampur and protested at the police station demanding arrest of the car driver.
He further said that the accused has been identified as Jaipur (Rajasthan) native Akash pursuing a degree in a private university and living on rent near Thakurpur. He was sent to Suddhowala jail after being presented in the court.
In another accident, Kotdwar resident police constable Rajesh Kandwal who was deputed at 31th PAC battalion, Rudrapur, died in a road accident while executing his duty. He was recruited in the year 2006. Uttarakhand Director General of Police BS Sidhu expressed grief over this incident and provided Rs one lakh to the deceased's family under State Police Martyrs Fund.
