Demanding allotment of the disputed land at Ghangapatna under Chandaka block on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar to landless tribals, hundreds of activists of the Odisha Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch constructed two temporary houses on the land on Friday.
Besides, the tribals also earmarked several patches on the disputed land for construction of more houses. This has given a new turn to the issue at a time when the State Government has taken steps to resume the ownership of the disputed land. The Manch, while demanding a CBI probe into the land grab case, has threatened to continue its agitation till the land is allotted to the landless tribals.
In another related incident, the Odisha Dalit Manch on Friday lodged a complaint against senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Kalpataru Das and his son and Dharmasala BJD MlA Praban Balabantray at the Capital police station alleging that the duo has managed to take possession of over 100 acres of tribal land at Ghangapatna by influencing the Government machinery.
The Manch threatened to launch a State-wide stir if the two BJD leaders are not arrested within 10 days. Meanwhile, acting on the complaint, the Capital police have begun investigation.
