With the revocation of ticket of Chhaya Verma from Raipur lok Sabha constituency, the Manva Kurmi community has become exasperated. Now, the community has decided to teach a lesson to the Congress in the entire State in the lok Sabha polls.
The Chhattisgarh Manva Kurmi Samaj on Sunday held a meeting at Udela (Hathbandh), in which the members of the community expressed their anger over the denial of ticket to Chhaya Verma.
They stated that the Congress has repeatedly been humiliating the Kurmi community and the community no more would tolerate this ignominy. At the meeting, held in the presence of the central unit president of the community, Shyamacharan Baghel, vice-president Dr Ramkumar Sirmour, Amit Baghel, women's president Dr Meera Baghel and other office-bearers, it was said that the national party had always been neglecting the Kurmi community.
In the Assembly election, the community had said that if tickets were given to Kurmi leaders, the party would win Dharseevan and Baloda Bazar seats, where the population of the community is more.
It was said that in the voters' list of last lok Sabha election the Kurmi community had over 16 lakh voters and this time one lakh new electorates have been added. Raipur lok Sabha seat has about four lakh voters, even then, the ticket of Chhaya Verma of Kurmi community has been revoked.
Former minister Satyanarayan Sharma has been given the ticket in her place, which the Kurmi community feels as insult.
It was decided at the meeting that the office-bearers of Kurmi community would visit constituencies like Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Mahasamund and hold meetings of the community and would teach a lesson to the Congress. The community would vote against the Congress.
