The police have arrested three persons and seized 37 kg of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 1.85 lakh from them in Darbha of insurgency-hit Bastar region. The accused were produced in a district court from where they were sent to jail in judicial remand, police said on Sunday.
According to police, the accused were identified as Rajesh Rajak (35), native of Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, Ramkishor Tulsi (34) and Pritam Patel (26), both hailing from Bahuripar, also in Madhya Pradesh.
Durgesh Sharma, station house officer of Darbha, informed that the seizure was made on a tip-off that some persons were trying to smuggle a sizable consignment of ganja from Darbha region. Accordingly, the security check was heightened and the accused were nabbed, the SHO said.
Police sources informed that the accused had brought the ganja from some place in Odisha and were heading towards Madhya Pradesh, while they were arrested. Police has registered a case under Section 20 (B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act against the accused trio.
