The devotees of the capital city, who could not attend the Rath Yatra at Puri, celebrated the auspicious occasion by going different Jagannath temples in the city to experience the holy moments on Sunday.
According to the tradition, the festival in the Jagannath temples began with worshipping the three deities before taking them to the chariots. The priests mounted the deities on their respective chariots by performing the ceremonial rites of Pahandi and Cherapahanra, following which the chariots were pulled.
The city’s major Ratha Yatra was held at the ISKCON temple with thousands of devotees participating in the holy event. The chariots of lord Balabhadra, was ahead of those of lord Jagannath and their sister Devi Subhadra. The chariots reached their destination Mausimaa temple at Unit-8 in the afternoon.
The Ratha Yatra was celebrated in Patia according to the rituals of the Puri Shreemandir. Besides, the festival was held in the Jagannath temples of the KIIT campus, Nandankanan, Unit-6, RCM Jagannath temple, Chidananda Vihar at Khandagiri, Jagamara, Old Town and Barmunda village.
