Safety & Ergonomics department of Tata Steel, in its ongoing endeavour to strengthen relationship with its partners, has created a forum called - ‘SUMIlAN’ with an objective to make Steel Works an accident free zone.
This forum facilitates interaction with supervisors, contractor’s employees and vendor partners. A special programme was organised on Wednesday inside Works for shop-floor employees of its vendor partners. Around 250 employees of contractors participated in the program. The programme also included showcasing of incident based films to sensitise and create awareness on the subject.
Employees of SAIZER Enterprises Pvt ltd, l&T, and FOSBEl shared their experience on safe work practices. Vilas N Gaikwad , chief, safety & ergonomics, Tata Steel, welcomed the guests and briefed the audience about the concept of ‘Sumilan’ and how ‘Manthan’ programmes organised with workers and supervisors were instrumental in evolution of this forum.
Shyam Sunder, chief, corporate safety, Tata Steel, addressed the vendor partners and stressed on working safely inside the Steel Works. He also talked about the concept of ‘Sumilan’ and how the platform can be used to deliberate upon the issues related to safety and implement the suggestions received.
