Tata Steel celebrated the birth anniversary of late Kartik Oraon popularly known as ‘Oraon Saheb’ - an ex-parliamentarian and Union Minister.
Tata Steel in association with Adivasi Oraon Samaj Samittee of Sitaramdera, Birsanagar, Ulidih and Mango organised a cultural event to showcase songs and Karam dance performances by groups from Ranchi, Chaibasa as well as local talents.
On the occasion, Biren Bhuta, chief, corporate social responsibility, Tata Steel and Ms. Urmila Ekka, Honorary Secretary, Tribal Cultural Society, Tata Steel, Oraon Samaj and Tribal Cultural Society staff members were present.
Kartik Oraon popularly known as ‘Oraon Saheb’, was born on 29th October 1924 in a village named Karound littatoli in Gumla district. He studied in Gumla and later pursued engineering from Bihar College of Engineering, Patna. Thereafter, he continued higher studies in Great Britain. He represented lohardaga parliamentary constituency several times and also held aviation and communication portfolios in the Government of India.
Tata Steel’s journey over the past century has been a fascinating saga of pioneering initiatives and its contribution to the tribal society. Tata Steel, through Tribal Cultural Society has been a change agent in its areas of operations for the preservation of tribal ethnicity.
