Symposium on inter-relation between media, literature held

Thursday, 31 July 2014 | SR | Bhopal

If we look for the differences between media and literature, it will only create a gap between the two and on the contrary if we look for the inter-connection between the two, it will result in creativity.

When children take birth, they communicate through their expression that they have come into existence and that expression is not media or literature. It is both. These views were expressed by Prof BK Kuthiala, vice-chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication while addressing a symposium organised on the subject ‘Inter-relation between media and literature’ on the university premises on Wednesday.

In his address, he further said that the objective of the media in today’s scenario should be focused on establishing a communication among the different sections of society which would eventually result in harmony among them. “Before independence, most of the media houses were in the hands of litterateurs and had a purpose while the few running with commercial purposes lacked creativity”, Kuthiala said adding, “The time has come when we should see media and literature as supplementary to each other and not as two different constituents of society and nature.”

The function also saw the release of noted photographer and writer, Naval Jaisawal’s book titled ‘Naval-Kamal’. In his address, Jaisawal said there is a strong relationship between media and literature and they cannot do without each other. He also threw light on the content of the book.

Among the others present on the occasion were litterateurs Nirmala Joshi, Prabhudayal Mishra, Mularam Joshi, heads and teachers of all the department of the university and other dignitaries from the city. The function was coordinated by Director (Productions), Aashish Joshi.
