Symbols issued to political parties

With the allotment of poll symbols, the battle for the  Kanker lok Sabha seat in Maoist hotbed Bastar is expected to intensify among the contesting 10 candidates of various political parties and independents during the coming days.

According to an official press statement, none of the candidates has withdrawn from the contest till the last date for withdrawal of nomination on Saturday. Returning officer Alarmelmangai D has issued the election symbol to the candidates.

As per the press statement, besides the candidates of the four national parties, Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch's Jamuna Mandavi has been allotted 'ladder' symbol, 'coat' to Malik Ram Thakur of Ambedkar Party of India, 'broom' to Santoshkumar Dhruv of AAP, 'axe' to Hemlal Markam of Gondwana Ganatantra Party, 'pencil sharpener' to Amalsai Sorri (independent) and 'kite' to Mahendra Gadve (independent).

Meanwhile, according to another official press statement, a meeting of the printers of the district was held here on Saturday. Presiding over the meeting, Nodal Officer and District Panchayat CEO Bhimsingh said that it was necessary to print the name of printer and publisher on the front page of the published materials like pamphlet, poster etc meant for political campaigning. There is a provision for fine and punishment for  violation of this rule.

She instructed them to submit four copies of the pamphlets and posters along with information about the quantity of printed materials and its cost etc compulsorily to the district electoral office in every three days.

The Returning Officer said that as per the model code of conduct, no printing press would print or publish any campaign material that would cause any religious, casteist or  linguistic hurt to the feelings of anyone or carry any personal allegations.

At the meeting, copies of Section 127(B) and the format for submitting information on the published political campaign materials were supplied. Additional CEO of district panchayat Cl Kashyapand  accounts officer Khurshid Khan were also present at the meeting.
