While the whole nation is agog to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a Swachchh Bharat a success, the Bhadrak district administration seems to be unaware of the campaign as the premises of the Collectorate, Bhadrak town and the district court are still filled with garbage.
“The garbage near the entrance of the Collectorate and the district court and the fountain of urine has been a custom for about a decade. Repeated appeals and directions from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) go to the dustbin of the district administration,” alleged locals.
“Nothing has been done to ensure cleanliness of the district after its creation,” maintained renowned freedom fighter of the district Ramahari Goswami, who has been felicitated by the President this year.
The situation of waste management and the unavailability of public convenience at the Government offices violate basic human rights of the people, said social activist Sitakanta Tripathy.
On the other hand the administration has locked two public conveniences citing their renovation.
