Students will be appointed as campus ambassadors under the voter awareness campaign —SENSE — for Madhya Pradesh urban body and 3-tier panchayat elections 2014-15. Only students of colleges and universities will be appointed as campus ambassadors, an election official said.
State Election Commission Secretary GK Shrivastava informed that the Commission or district election officer will appoint a student as campus ambassador only after verifying impartial, clean and non-political image. Ambassadors will be selected on the basis of lists provided by colleges and universities. District election officers can also select campus ambassadors themselves with the help of NSS/NCC. In co-ed schools one male and one female student will be selected as campus ambassador. Ambassador’s family must not be connected with a political party or political activity. Immediate action will be taken if complaint of any contrary conduct is made. Every campus ambassador’s police verification will be done.
Campus ambassador will identify unregistered students, teachers, non-teaching staff and their family members and get them registered. He or she will play an important role in organising competitions of slogans, posters, debates, essay, jingle writing, song writing and street plays. Campus ambassadors will help in voter’s registration in coordination with organisations like Scout & Guide, NCC and NSS. District election officers will provide necessary materials for voter registration and voter awareness campaign. An affidavit will also be taken from them.
Discussions on proposals regarding selection of campus ambassadors will be held till July 5. Appointment letters will be issued by district election officers by July 10. Training to ambassadors will be imparted till July 17. They will be given information about various activities and competitions from July 18 to 22, college-level song, speech and other competitions will be held from July 23 to August 25. Campus ambassador will get registered the unregistered students and employees on college premises from August 29 to September 15.
They will inform women, deprived sections, remote areas and scattered group voters at local level about way to fill up voter registration form and electoral process from September 23 to October 17.
