A jawan of Special Task Force (STF) was killed and 23 other policemen injured when the bus in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary van near Raiput village in the restive Bastar district on Saturday night, police said here on Sunday.
Ten of the jawans were shifted to Raipur for better treatment, police said. According to the police, the mishap occurred near Raiput village on NH-63 when a bus carrying Special Task Force (STF) personnel was heading towards South Bastar on Saturday night.
The STF personnel were going for different tasks assigned in Bastar region, Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadav informed. About 150 STF personnel were heading towards interior parts of Bastar in three different buses from Jagdalpur. When their convoy reached near Raiput village, the driver of one of the buses, moving in front, failed to notice the van parked on the roadside and rammed the vehicle into it, he said.
The deceased was identified as head constable Premshankar Chaturvedi, a native of Dharsiwa in Raipur. Chaturvedi died while undergoing treatment at Jagdalpur while 23 others were injured. Soon after getting information about the incident, police personnel reached the spot and the injured jawans, were admitted to Jagdalpur hospital. later on, ten of them were shifted to Raipur for further treatment. A case has been registered in this connection, police said.
