With a fortnight having passed since Amit Bhura had escaped from police custody in Baghpat, Uttarakhand police are still clueless about the contract killer’s whereabouts. In the wake of the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat having taken a serious note of the infamous escape, Uttarakhand police formed several teams and sought help from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to re-arrest the notorious fugitive.
Joint operation was launched by the Uttarakhand police from control room based in Noida. However, breakthrough has remained elusive till date. State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena said that about 25 teams consisting around 100 police officers and policemen, including Special Operation Group, Special Task Force and Cyber Cell, were formed and they are working on special information as well as direction being given by senior officers to apprehend the accused and recover the weapons looted from the police.
The teams had prepared sketches and photos of Bhura and these are being pasted across the country. There is also the mention of Rs 10 lakh as announced by the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments for information leading to the gangster’s arrest. The joint teams had arrested three persons, including Vinay, relative of Bhura and Anuj, relative of Sunil Rathi. Besides, some suspects are being grilled.
Teams were deployed at important places in Haryana, Mumbai, Punjab and other states. Teams are working on the leads that the investigation has thrown up.Bhura had escaped from the police custody while being taken to the court in Baghpat in connection with a murder case, giving the escorting personnel a slip on December 15. The armed criminals had sprinkled chilli power on policemen and looted police of two AK-47 rifles and one self-loading rifle (SlR) aside from securing the escape of Bhura from the escorting cops.
