Sub-inspector Naresh Rathore who had allegedly manhandled a tourist during Mussoorie Winterline Carnival held in Mussoorie, was shunted to police line on Tuesday. Rathore was earlier deputed as lakhibagh police post in-charge. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pushpak Jyoti has taken the decision after Mussoorie Circle Officer Rameshwar Dimri submitted an enquiry report of the incident.
Taking the issue seriously, the Mussoorie MlA Ganesh Joshi had resigned from the post of vice-president of Winterline Carnival committee on Monday while alleging that the district administration had not taken steps against the policemen who had manhandled a person when the carnival was on.
A senior police officer said that policemen are not supposed to manhandle any person despite him being caught committing mischief at a public place. Instead of manhandling the person concerned, policemen should go for the procedure-lodging an FIR under appropriate sections of IPC in the police station concerned.
Earlier, MlA Joshi had met the State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena and submitted a memorandum, demanding prompt suspension of the police officer concerned. He had served his resignation from the post to the committee chairman/district magistrate, Dehradun.
Sources said that a local in inebriated state was found indulging in nuisance when the programme was on during Carnival. DM Chandresh Kumar and SDM were also present on the occasion. Irked, a sub-inspector Rathore had manhandled the person concerned to ensure it went on smoothly. Observers, however, opined that police should abide by the laws instead of running wild under impulses despite provocations.
