Shivhare sent to police custody

Wednesday, 30 April 2014 | SR | Bhopal

Suspended Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) RK Shivhare, who has been arrested on the charge of his involvement in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, was on Tuesday sent to police custody till May 1.

Shivrahre was produced in a district court by the Special Task Force (STF), which is investigating the MPPEB examination scams. Shivhare was found involved in irregularities committed in the recruitment of police constables.

While producing Shivhare in the court, the STF had sought police remand for five days, but the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Pankaj Singh Maheshwari allowed only two days' police remand.

Earlier, after the police officer had surrendered before the STF, the court had handed over Shivhare to the police remand for two days and later sent him to the jail in judicial custody. Since, the judicial custody period expired on Monday, he was produced in the court yesterday also.

STF sources informed that it wants Shivhare to grill in front of other accused Nitin Mahindra, who was reportedly a kingpin in the whole scam. The STF officials want to unearth the processes of the fraud for clearing the competitive examinations, despite the fact that everything was computerised in the MPPEB.

The MPPEB examination scam has rocked Madhya Pradesh. A number of influential persons including former Education Minister laxmikant Sharma have been questioned in the case, while Sharma's OSD OP Shukla has been arrested in the case.
