In a rare case, a young tribal woman of Sundargarh after delivering a girl child at a hospital lodged a complaint against the youth who caused her pregnant and later dumped her. She demanded that the youth accept her as his wife and her girl child.

Meanwhile, the police have summoned the youth and on being questioned, he has confessed to be the father of the new born and agreed to marry the girl soon. Sources said, Mohan Sahu (33) resides at Birtoli village under Sadar police station of Sundargarh. One Panchami Bag (30) also resides in same village. Mohan and Panchami were in love more than a year back.

Mohan kept physical relationship with Panchami promising her to marry. But time and again, when Panchami insisted Mohan on marrying her, Mohan avoided her. In the meantime, Panchami became pregnant and when she told Mohan about her pregnancy, he ditched her. On March 25 midnight, Panchami gave birth to a girl child.

later, Panchami sent a complain letter from her hospital bed through her mother  to the Sundargarh Sadar police station IIC and also sent a copy of the letter to the district Superintendent of Police, stating her ordeal and narrating in detail about how her lover made her pregnant without marrying her and later ditched her. She claimed that her marriage with Mohan be solemnised before police so that she and her new born child get justice.

“Mohan Sahu has agreed in writing to accept both the girl child and the mother. He has also agreed to marry the unwed mother at the earliest in a court,” said Sadar police station SI Suchitra Jena.
