Trying to strike an emotional chord with the people in Uttarakhand, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that god had always given him an opportunity to do the right work. After the Gujarat earthquake, he got a chance to serve the State and managed to rebuild the earthquake-affected areas and now god would give him an opportunity to rebuild Uttarakhand, which had witnessed the double whammy of a disaster followed by Government mismanagement. He assured that he would give an honest and tough Government if elected to power.
Addressing a large gathering at Herbertpur, Vikasnagar in Dehradun, Modi said that after he heard about people in trouble after the June 2013 disaster, he rushed to Uttarakhand and found BJP workers trying their best to help the affected people. He had then asked Tehri MP Mala Rajya laxmi Shah to avoid
visiting the disaster-affected areas, but she had refused to sit at home. “Seeing her work in disaster-affected areas
reminded me of Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia. Since then I have developed greater respect for Rajya laxmi.”
Citing communalism and nepotism in politics, he said that currently, the nation is passing through a difficult phase and needs the jadi buti of development. Stressing on the need for separate policies based on specific geographical conditions across the nation, Modi said that the incumbent Government was making a uniform policy for the whole nation. “They have forgotten the diversity of this nation where some people eat Idli Sambhar, some eat Puri Sabzi, some eat paratha and some eat Dhokla Fafda,” he said, trying to connect the four corners of India citing the dishes.
There is a need to make separate policy for the Himalayan States which will start from Jammu and Kashmir to North-Eastern States. Talking about Ganga river, Modi said that Ganga has given life and it passes from here; so there is need for a policy for connecting Ganga with development of the state. “Uttarakhand has forests and mountains; so, we need to make a policy to popularise Char Dham in the global arena.
