Security upped for New year celebrations

Wednesday, 31 December 2014 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Security in the State capital has been beefed up with the deployment of additional police forces at important places to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Pushpak Jyoti has assigned duties to the police officers and policemen at important places, including ISBT, tourists’ spots and some other places to maintain peace.

Policemen have also been deputed at intersections to resolve traffic congestion in the city, in particular, and in the district, in general. An order has been issued to the police officers to be vigilant over New Year Eve parties in the hotels and ensure that such parties are held after no- objection certificate is obtained from local police station. SSP Jyoti said that he has directed the circle officers to ensure that police are active and vigilant at their assigned posts. Things would be monitored closely and the erring ones would be dealt with stringently, he warned.

He said that traffic police officers have been directed to deploy traffic police equipped with alcometers at different intersections on the roads that lead to the tourist destinations.  Drunk driving will not be allowed and violators would invite stringent punishment. Apart from this, police would keep round the clock vigil to stop any person from violating laws on roads or while partying in hotels or restaurants during the New Year celebration, he added. Police officers have been instructed to ensure that the hotel owners accommodate only those who submit photo copies of identity proofs. “Things would be checked thoroughly,” the SSP averred.
