Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) scuffled with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthy Parishad (ABVP) members resulting in the disruption of classes in the DAV (PG) College and traffic congestion outside the college premises, causing inconvenience to the commuters. Student leaders were seen arguing with police deployed on the campus.
No FIR was, however, lodged by any side with the police patting its own back for facilitating a compromise between the rival student groups. However, the police appear to have ignored the inconvenience caused to the college students as well as to the common people due to the altercation and its aftermath.
The scuffle involving NSUI and ABVP members unleashed chaos in the college. Admission process and classes were adversely affected. Traffic congestion was witnessed on DAV (PG) College Road and Karanpur Road, causing inconvenience to thousands of people using these roads- two of the busiest roads of the city. Police rushed to the college and some students were questioned. NSUI and ABVP leaders reached the college and were seen defending their members.
However, no FIR was lodged by any side. More such scuffles in the college campus cannot be ruled out. Observers opined police going for cavalier approach instead of taking the bull by the horns would embolden the student leaders to browbeat one another.
