A constable of SAT-I (Small action team ) posted in the Mica city of Giridih has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself by his service rifle on his head on Wednesday night at around 11 pm, police said.
Manoj Kachhap (28) who died while being taken to hospital had shot himself with his service rifle and was posted at Giridih police picket of Giridih district; around 2 km from police headquarters.
Police sources said that in the morning, the SAT-1 jawan Manoj Kumar was engaged in his duty at the court premises in Giridih. After finishing his duty he returned his police barrack at Kailibagh in Giridih. At around 11 pm on Wednesday his colleagues heard the firing and rushed into the barrack room. They found Kachhap, who belongs to Jagarnathpur area of Ranchi, lying in a pool of blood, police said. Police are yet to ascertain the reason for the suicide.
However, some of his colleagues posted at the SAT-1 said Kachhap was in acute depression and was upset after his leave requests were refused by the senior officials.
Giridih Superintendent of Police said that preliminary investigation indicated that it was a suicide but the police were waiting for an autopsy report. He also refuted the allegation of any misbehaviour to the deceased jawan.
