The Congress in Uttarakhand is viewing the results of the three-tier Panchayat elections in the State as a sign of the public being happy with the functioning of the Congress-led State Government headed by Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
The party State spokesman Dhirendra Pratap has called the Panchayat election results, a validation by the rural public of the progressive policies of the State Government.
Thanking the lakhs of villagers who had voted in support of the Congress in the Panchayat elections, Pratap said that the Panchayat polls had proved hollow, the claims of the State BJP about having the support of the public in the rural areas of the State. He said,
“The recently concluded lok Sabha elections were fought on national issues and the BJP had succeeded in spreading misinformation in the public to win the parliamentary polls. However, a month after BJP formed its Government at the Centre, the people have realised the difference between what was promised and what is being facilitated by the BJP. While voting in the Panchayat polls, the
villagers had realised that the Congress is the only party which is capable of facilitating the
desired level of development and improvement in their lives. If the BJP is wise, it will acknowledge that its position in the State is not as strong as
being considered. The people will ensure a victory for the Congress in all the three Assembly
segments in the coming Assembly by-polls,”
said Pratap.
