Rs 9 cr cash, liquor worth Rs 8.35 cr seized during polls

Strict action was taken to ensure free and fair lok Sabha elections in the 29 constituencies of Madhya Pradesh in all the three phases. Apart from police and excise staff, flying squads, income tax teams and SST conducted search operations to check misuse of black money and illicit  distribution of liquor in the districts. During these search and checking operations cash and kind including liquor worth Rs 23.58 cr were seized.

During the elections, Rs 9 cr cash was seized of which flying squads seized Rs 6.94 lakh, SST Rs 1.25 cr, police Rs 75.21 lakh and the Income Tax Department Rs 2.06 cr.

During the elections, 2.97 lakh litre illegal liquor worth Rs 8.35 cr was seized. Flying squads seized 425.6 litre liquor worth Rs 97,650,  SST 454.8 litre liquor worth Rs 88,070, police 1.92 lakh litre liquor worth Rs 6.07 cr and the Excise Department seized 1.03 lakh litre liquor worth Rs 2.24 crore.

Police seized 899.404 kg drugs/narcotics worth Rs 2.78 crore. Flying squads seized various kinds of goods worth Rs 33.73 lakh and SST Rs 43.38 lakh and police seized other materials worth Rs 4.50 cr. In this way, Rs 3.09 cr cash, Rs 2.80 cr worth bullion, Rs 8.35 cr litre liquor worth 2.97 lakh, Rs 2.78 cr worth 899.404 kg drugs/narcotics and Rs 5.27 cr worth other material were seized. Police has seized large quantity of bullion also.

Other major seizures were in Harda district 24,600 litre Made-in-Haryana IMFl, and in Khargone district, Rs 76 lakh was seized and handed over to the Income Tax Department. Of these, Rs 34.47 lakh was returned after scrutiny. In Jhabua district, 4.50 kg gold worth Rs 1.29 cr was seized.

Out of a total of 4.80 crore voters in Madhya Pradesh, 2.96 crore cast their votes in the 29 lok Sabha constituencies in the State in the elections. In the year 2009 lok Sabha elections 1.94 crore out of 3.80 crore voters had exercised their franchise.

Total number of male voters in the State was 2.52 crore of which 1.67 crore cast their votes. Similarly, 1.28 crore out of 2.28 crore female voters exercised their franchise. In this way, polling percentage of males and females was 66.05 per cent and 56.52 per cent, respectively.

Maximum 13.16 lakh out of total 21.14 lakh voters exercised their franchise in Indore lok Sabha constituency followed by Bhopal where 11.29 lakh out of 19.55 lakh voters cast their votes. Mandla stood third where 12.16 lakh out 18.24 lakh voters cast their voters followed by Gwalior with 9.87 lakh voters out of 18.73 lakh voters.

Besides, 11.42 lakh voters cast their votes in Dewas Parliamentary Constituency, 11.11 lakh in Balaghat, 10.30 lakh in Hoshangabad, 10.72 lakh in Vidisha, 10.10 lakh in Rajgarh, 10.01 lakh in Jabalpur, 10.15 lakh in Ujjain, 11.58 lakh in Mandsaur, 10.81 lakh in Ratlam, 10.66 lakh in Dhar, 11.42 lakh in Khargone, 12.47 lakh in Khandwa, 10.68 lakh in Betul, 8.54 lakh in Morena, 7.29 lakh in Bhind, 9.75 lakh in Guna, 8.90 lakh in Sagar, 7.66 lakh in Tikamgarh, 9.12 lakh in Damoh, 8.74 lakh in Khajuraho, 12.61 lakh in Satna, 8.29 lakh in Rewa, 9.86 lakh in Sidhi and 9.71 lakh voters cast their votes in Shahdol parliamentary constituency.
