Rs 100-cr Gajapati road project lies incomplete

Friday, 28 February 2014 | PNS | PARALAKHEMUNDI

The construction work of the Mohana-Paralakhemundi and labanygarh-Alada State highways worth around Rs 100 crore is lying incomplete in Gajapati district.

In 2009, the Works Department had assured that the road construction process would begin in a two-phased manner from 2011 and be completed within a year. ARSS, which was supposed to construct the road from Mohana block to Jajpur village of Gosani block, has only completed it from Jajpur to Malarba.

However, the construction work from Malarba Ghati to Mohana block is yet to be finished. Similar is the situation for the labanygarh-Alada road, with construction company BRC having abandoned the road work from Jangalpadu to labanyagarh.

It has been alleged that while several accidents have occurred due to the incomplete construction of culverts and roads, neither the concerned authority nor the district administration has evinced any interest to take steps in this regard. Besides, the locals have also alleged that the construction work undertaken by the two companies is of low quality.
