The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Monday put locks on Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium’s gate comprising electronic equipment and other items kept inside for shooting an episode of the Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) show here.
The shooting for KBC was held in Raipur during the past two days drawing thousands of people to the stadium to watch the show live conducted by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. The locking of the stadium gate was carried out by RMC officials after KBC producers failed to clear the stadium’s entire rental even after the end of the deadline on Monday.
“RMC had given the stadium to the producers of KBC for shooting and therefore, had charged Rs18,8,1612 as the rent. To this, the producing company had deposited Rs2 lakh as advance,” said RMC Zone-7 commissioner, Dr Pritam Mishra. Following the directives of Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak, the RMC issued many notices to the producers for clearing the remaining amount, to this, the latter deposited Rs9.80 lakh. “For depositing the remaining amount, Nayak had directed to issue final deadline of Monday. However, when the producers failed to respond even on Monday, the RMC put locks on the stadium’s gate this morning” confirmed Mishra.
The civic body also issued a fresh notice to the company imposing a fine of Rs12 lakh for damaging the wooden floor in the stadium.
Mishra said that the company sent the remaining of around Rs7 lakh towards the stadium’s rent in RMC’s account through RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) Mode by this afternoon while deliberations between the civic body and producers of the show to pay the remaining dues as soon as possible were on.
Though Mishra termed the issue as routine and normal, he mentioned of not releasing the locked items in the stadium of the programme until the remaining amount was cleared.
No officials concerned from the producing company could be contacted for their comments on the matter.
