'Resources need to be tapped for S Odisha growth'

Delivering his speech at the seventh annual ceremony of the Zila Sambadika Sagha here, Chief Operating Officer of lanjigarh’s Sesa Sterlite limited Karuna Kant Dave said optimum utilisation of natural resources of south Odisha can usher in development of the area.

Also keeping his view, senior Vice-President (HR), Utkal Alumina M Ramesh Kumar said, “The media fraternity needs to shoulder some social obligations. We from Utakal Alumina will always be with any good social initiative taken up by the scribes.” Addressing as chief speaker, veteran Gandhian and Sarvodaya leader Dr Ratan Das advised the journalists to be truthful and unbiased while presenting facts and making opinions.

According to CRPF, 4th Battalion Commandant Balram Behera the fourth pillar of the democracy is in peril in the present context. Their life is under threat in the Maoist infested area. District Collector Dr Sashi Bhusan Padhi attended as chief guest on the occasion and advised the journalist to play the role of friend, philosopher and guide of the general public. He also assured that he would recommend a few journalists for accreditation. Scribe Badal Kumar Tah presided. The kin of a few deceased journalists like Simanchal Mohapatra, Joseph Johnson Bara, Arjun Nayak and Nabin Patra were felicitated. Historian Sriranga Nayak, cine reporter Gourishankar Panda and vocalist Anuradha Panigrahi were awarded. A souvenir was unveiled.
