The cold conditions prevailed in some parts of Punjab and Haryana with minimum and maximum temperature settling below normal levels on Thursday.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana recorded a minimum temperature of 12 degrees C and maximum temperature of 22.9 degrees C, two notches below normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar was the coldest place recording a low of 7 degrees C, down by one degree. ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective minimum temperature at 9 degrees C and 10.5 degrees C.
Among other places in Haryana, Hisar and Karnal braved cold weather at 8.8 degrees C and 7.5 degrees C, down by up to three degrees below normal.
Ambala recorded a minimum temperature of 12.9 degrees C while Narnaul’s low settled at 9 degrees C.
The Met Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the region in next 24 hours.
“Hailstorms/thunder squalls with wind speed exceeding 45 km per hour is expected at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab in next 48 hours,” said a Met official.
