Durga Puja celebrations in the city will be held from September 30 tll October 4 with religious fanfare. The festivities will begin on Tuesday with the Maha Shashthi Puja in the morning and Bodhan-invocation of the Goddess, amidst chanting of mantras in the evening.
The 71st Durga Puja celebrations will be held at the Junior Club Premises, Ordnance Factory Estate, Raipur, Dehradun. The noticeable thing this year will be the eco-friendly idols of the goddess and other deities here. Even the dresses/costumes she will wear are made of clay only.
Then onwards from October 1, the daily Puja will be held, followed by Pushpanjali, Bhog and Bhog distribution to the masses, with about 8,000 people expected to partake of the bhog.
During the Durga Puja festivities Sandhi Puja is very important. This signifies the moment, when Mahishasur, the demon king is believed to have been killed by the goddess. It will fall around the afternoon on October 2. This also marks the time when Ashtami yields place to Navami. Daily cultural festivities to enthrall the crowd with variety of programmes including dance, dramas and plays have also been planned.
Moroever, the 25th Durga Puja celebrations will also be held at Narayan Mandir Karanpur Bazaar with all the preparations being completed on Monday.
