Procession taken out to mark Cheti Chand

Monday, 31 March 2014 | SR | Raipur

Marking the beginning of Cheti Chand celebrations, massive processions with tableaux were taken out in the city on Sunday by members of the Sindhi community. The celebrations will continue till April 1.

Hundreds of people took part in the procession as it passed through Jai Stambh Chowk and other areas in the city. A huge idol of lord Jhulelal was displayed during the procession and children were dressed as mythological characters. Intensive fireworks was one of the main attractions of the procession. People visited their friends and family members on the occasion and wished for their prosperity.

People offered prayers for the well-being of their family, friends and homeland and exchanged greetings. Cultural programmes were also organised at the BTI Ground where actors and comedians entertained the people. Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal was the chief guest on the occasion.

Members of the Sindhi community celebrate the festival of Cheti Chand in honour of the birth of lord Jhulelal, the patron saint of the Sindhis. This day is considered to be very auspicious and is celebrated with pomp and gaiety. On this day, people worship water - the elixir of life.
