Few policemen were hurt during an anti-encroachment drive on Sunday in the Gandhi colony area nearby the Mansa Devi temple in Haryana’s Panchkula city, after some unidentified people allegedly tried to stop the authorities from carrying out the work, police said.

“The drive was being carried out by the HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) in the Gandhi colony area.Everything was going on smoothly, when some miscreants pelted stones at the police force and tried to stop the authorities from carrying out the drive. Some policemen were hurt in the incident,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-City), Panchkula, Mamta Sauda said. She said that some of the miscreants then shifted from the site where the drive was being carried out to the railway tracks nearby and “stopped a passenger train” plying on the Kalka-Ambala-Delhi route for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, in view of the protest, the drive was suspended today, with authorities giving two more days to the people to vacate the area, a HUDA official said.
